Children and their parents/guardians explore musical concepts such as meter, tempo, phrase, form and dynamics, through rhythm games, creative movement, songs, stories, ear-training, sight-singing and improvisation.
Music is important for young children, not just referring to it's role in the development of many kinds of intelligence - which has been well document - but the sheer joy of experiencing music. For socialisation and the feeling of belonging, nothing compares with the bond which is formed when a group makes music together. Shy children will start to come out of their shells a bit to join in, and aggressive children will cooperate so they can tke part in fun. Music, a natural outlet for creativity and self expressive, is a basic human need. Yet some children don't even realise that music is somehing that they can create.
